Propylenglycol und Glycerin sind nicht toxisch in kleinen und mittleren Quantitäten. Propylenglycol ist ein Ausgangsstoff für unterschiedliche chemische Produkte, wie Acetale, Methylglyoxal, Dimethyl, Milchsäure, unterschiedliche Arzneimittel.

Propylenglycol wird in der Produktion der ungesättigten Polyesterharze benutzt.
